Have tons of Blu-ray movies and want to get these movies off of BD discs and onto Plex for streaming with ease and wonder what would be the best way to go about it? Here we go.

Searched widely and I got some tech support for playing Blu-ray on Plex Media Server with ease. Since Plex Media Server can not handle BD movie files. To watch Blu-ray movies on Plex, you will need to rip and convert BD to a Plex Media Server supported video format first.

Among various Blu-ray ripping tools, Pavtube ByteCopy is rating in the first place. (Read the review) It is easy to use and primarily helps you fast rip and convert 2D/3D Blu-ray to a Plex Media Server playable format MP4, MKV with perfect audio and video sync keeping HD quality. Besides, it is able to create a lossless copy of a Blu-Ray to use on my Plex server. For ripping Blu-ray on Mac, ByteCopy for Mac is the alternative. Download the program and start conversion.

Tip: Also you can also convert iTunes Movie to Plex Media Server for watching freely with an additional DRM tool.

Here is the step-by-step guide on ripping, converting Blu-ray to Plex Media Server

Step 1: Load Blu-ray movies

Insert your Blu-ray disc into your drive, run the Blu-ray Ripper for Plex and click "disc" icon to load movies.

Step 2: Choose output format

Click the "Format" option, and choose MP4, MKV from Common Video profile list. If you want to keep 1080p resolution as source movie, you can choose HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mp4) for streaming to Plex Media Server. Also you can backup Blu-ray into lossless mkv format for storage on Plex.

Step 3: Advanced video/audio settings

Plex Media Server does play MP4 files according to the relevant info in Plex official site. However, Plex just plays the MP4 files with H.264 video codec and AAC audio. Click the Settings icon to set the correct video, audio codecs.

Step 4: Start Blu-ray to Plex ripping

Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Blu-ray ripper will start the conversion from Blu-ray to MP4/MKV for Plex Media Server immediately.

When the conversion ends, you will be able to get the result video via tapping the Open button in the main interface. Afterwards, you can transfer Blu-ray rips onto Plex Media Server for smooth playback or stream to HDTV or iPad, Samsung Galaxy phone, HTC one X+, or other DLNA-compliant devices without any incompatible problem.

What's more, you can stream Blu-ray to Amazon Fire TV, Plasma TV, Chromecast and Roku 3 via Plex.
